The Stuyvesant Avenue studio will be holding its second annual fundraiser and adoption event benefiting the Friends of The Secaucus Animal Shelter Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.
The shelter is a no-kill, free-roaming facility that doesn’t use cages.
“Animals are near and dear to my heart and I’m happy to do anything to help the shelter and help pets get adopted,” benefiting the Friends of The Secaucus Animal Shelter. studio owner Teresa Dornellas said.
“Plus it’s always fun to workout with animals roaming around.”
The kitten yoga class last month was a full house and Dornellas expects Pilates with Puppies will be popular as well.
“We’ll practice Pilates with adorable puppies, all up for adoption. But even if Pilates isn’t for you, all are welcome to come and play with the puppies.”
The puppies arrived at the shelter by way of Louisiana.
“Five puppies were left alone in rural Louisiana. They were abandoned without a mom or dad so we really have no true idea of the breed but we see have some terrier of some sort in them, maybe some rat terrier,” said Secaucus Animal Shelter Director Chris Conte.
“They’re all 12 weeks old and they’re happy little babies. We have two boys and three girls,” she said, adding the puppies arrived last week by ground transport.
Conte said the shelter gets most of their puppies from Louisiana.
“They have a bad situation of puppies abandoned all over. It’s a big problem all over the south,” Conte said.
Suggested donation is $10, but people are asked to give as much as they can. Kids are welcome and there is no need to sign up in advance.
The Pilates mat class starts at 3:30 p.m.
